Fairhope's New Fire Chief Presented

At its first January meeting, the City Council introduced Chris Ellis as the newly elected Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. Joey Levit is Assistant Chief.

Ellis said the Department answered 719 calls in 2010 and currently has 53 firefighters--including 27 EMTs and 2 paramedics. This year is the organization's 75th anniversary.

The FVFD is a private "501(c)" non-profit  corporation under contract to provide fire protection for the city. The council has already provided funds for a new fire engine this year ($390,000).

Council President Mixon to Ellis: Our door is always open . . . anything we can do to help . . . let us know."

knowing the experience Chief Ellis brings to the FVFD, I know it is in very capable hands and Fairhope is very fortunate to have his leadership.
