Special Council Meeting Called For Tomorrow

TO CONSIDER EMPLOYEE'S TERMINATION APPEAL

The city council will meet in special session tomorrow (8:30AM) --  to hear an appeal of her recent termination by (former) Human Resources Director Rhonda Bishop,

Citing privacy rules, no reason has been given by the Mayor or Administrator for the dismissal.

An e-mail announcing the special meeting was sent out by the clerks office at 1:47 PM yesterday (Wednesday).

By majority vote, the council may overturn the termination decision.

QUINN OBJECTS TO SHORT NOTICE  FOR SPECIAL MEETING

Councilmember Quinn said in an e-mail (to other city officials/media) she was leaving for a meeting of the National League of Cities (in Washington) that same morning; and objected to the lack of prior notice given of the meeting.

Quinn: "When we are given a day and a half notice . . . by e-mail . . . its not enough for something this important. What if one of us didn't open our e-mail."

She went on tho say it was well known she would be out of town on Friday.

Quinn: "I think its very unprofessional to be notified this way."

(Publisher's note: E-mailed questions from the Times to city officials asking why the matter couldn't wait until Monday's regular council meeting (March 14th) have thus-far gone unanswered)

CALLING SPECIAL MEETINGS

According to city ordinance 2-29, the presiding officer or 2 council members may call a special council meeting. A  24 hour notice is required to other officials and the public.
