2003 EPA Watershed Grant Use Reconsidered

A never-used 2003 EPA Special Appropriations Grant (aka Southwest Baldwin County Watershed Management Program) to Foley, Fairhope, and Daphne is being reconsidered by the city after Foley asked for Fairhope's unused portion ($202,000).  The grant was originally intended for a tri-city "stormwater study."

In a recent letter, Foley indicated it wants to use Fairhope's portion for a stream restoration project (Wolf Creek). Records indicate Daphne has not used its portion either.

Mayor Kant said the grant will expire this October. The grant requires a $150,000 match from the city--or "in kind" services.

FLY CREEK PRESERVATIONISTS INTERESTED

The Fly Creek Preservation Association has expressed interest in the money: a sedimentation study there had to be canceled last year when a property owner denied access to his property (Corte).
