Medical Overlay District Planned for Thomas Hospital

ADJACENT TO HOSPITAL

Fairhope Planning Director Johnathan Smith presented the proposed zoning ordinance designed to "accommodate the growth and expansion needs of Thomas Hospital." Smith said the Hospital Committee had been working on the proposal for many months--and had based it on Punta Gorda Florida's ordinance: a city demographically similar to Fairhope.

Smith said uses permitted will be: medical offices; nursing homes; medical/dental clinics; labs; emergency services; medical vocational/business schools; et al.

TABLED BY COMMISSION

After hearing from a representative of some neighbors (Daphne resident Willie Williams), the Commission decided to delay voting on the proposal to allow further input from neighborhood-area residents. The proposal will ultimately have to be approved by the City Council.
