New Debate Over Fairhope Noise Ordinance Gets Loud

CITIZENS WANT TO REDUCE NIGHTIME LIMIT

A proposal by a group of downtown and marina-area residents to reduce the night time (after 10PM) noise level limit from 85 to 65 decibels caused a confrontation at a recent council work session with the owner of a local restaurant/pub.

The owner of the Fly Creek Cafe said she thought the government should not be involved in the matter at all--and walked out while a complaining neighbor was speaking.

The current 85db limit is based on Mobile's ordinance; but some citizens prefer the 65db level (Orange Beach, Daphne).

An item to amend the city's noise ordinance is on the agenda for Monday night's council meeting.

Why is this an issue now? I remember several years ago the bands at Fly creek were much louder than those playing now. I guess the Fairhope depicted at the city museum is a fiction or a thing of the past.

This is what happens when the big corporations like Wal Mart take over a town. There is no turning the clock back now. Sadly.

How the heck did Wally World enter this equation??? And Fly Creek charges too much for their burgers anyway.

I give you Exhibit A in why there should be term limits on the city council.

While I'm not a fan of the Fly Creek owner, Fairhope is not a retirement village. Let the ordinance be, folks. Some would say it's already too restrictive.
