Financial Committee Worries About Long Range Spending Plan

$49 MILLION NEEDED WITHIN 5 YEARS

Fairhope Financial Committee member Stan Grubin worries the city needs to better plan and prioritize for its capital-projects needs in the coming years. Department Heads had previously submitted a wish-list of projects ("5 Year Capital Requirements") totaling over $49 million.

Grubin envisions an "all encompassing strategic plan" including plans for financing.

Grubin suggested appointing city personnel to oversee the effort, so the city can "own" the plan, but the committee/council decided to consider his proposal more before taking that step.

(One council member worries privately that political influences (vice real needs of the city) may creep into the process if city personnel take responsibility for spending priorities.)
