Confusion Over Montrose Crime Statistics Meeting

CITIZEN'S  ACCOUNT QUESTIONED

In a recent newspaper report  Kent Hendricks is quoted saying a "show of hands" at a Jun. 2 meeting indicated there were many more burglaries in his neighborhood than police were saying (9 burglaries this year); but a video obtained by the Times supports the police position (only 2  hands were raised at the meeting).

Fairhope Courier:

"During the community meeting, King told residents that nine homes had been burglarized during the period in question, but Hendricks said the show of hands among the roughly 70 residents present indicated the number was higher and said several of the homes in question had been hit more than once yet categorized as one incident for reporting purposes. Although his home was burglarized three times, Hendricks said his garage was actually the site of the first invasion, but he never reported the incident for lack of proof."

Police throughout the county are urging residents like Hendricks to help them reduce crime by locking their doors -- with the new Lock it Or Lose It campaign.

(A suspect has since been arrested in the Hendrick's case)
