New Restaurant Coming to Burned Fairhope Landmark?

Village Square
Usually knowledgeable sources say a restaurant is planning to locate in the Village Square building at the corner of Fairhope Ave. and Church St.

The building was severely damaged by fire earlier this year and is to be reconditioned for the new restaurant -- not demolished.

According to the unconfirmed reports, either an Eggs Etc. or a Cracked Egg may be locating there after renovations (for breakfast and lunch only).

If they are all making money, then it's not too many. The market will dictate the correct number of restaurants in this city.

Unfortunately, this is a tough time to open a new business. I wish them the best.

We need restaurants in the mid-range for families...right now it's either fast food or expensive...not much middle ground in F'hope unless you go Mexican. So I guess Abner's isn't returning obviously? Must not have been doing the business, but I liked it.

Would someone PLEASE put something in the old Food World building? I'm tired of seeing that vacant...it looks bad. What happend to the bowling alley that was supposed to go in there? I guess someone must have protested Fairhope actually attempting to get some sort of family entertainment. Probably the same people that don't want kids in the dog park (huh?!?!?)

On the bowling alley...

As I understand it, the planning department did not approve of the original design which meant the developer had to have new plans. Unfortunately for him, his architect went bankrupt. He was then forced to hire a new firm and start all over. That's why they did they haunted house...to try to recoup some of the lost money. Haven't anything lately.
