Fairhope Council to Purchase Electronic Streetlights

USING FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY

Fairhope Electric Superintendent Scot Sligh requested the city council apply to purchase 80 new LED streetlights (similar to those near the Hampton Inn, Section St.) -- to be located downtown and near the pier. Total cost will be less than $75,000.

The Federal Government will reimburse the city via the ARRA (Stimulus Act) -- as it was with the recently installed traffic signals.

The electronic LED devices (light emitting diodes) consume considerably less energy than traditional ones.

There are areas that need attention more than street lights. For one, the picnic tables at the "castle park" in downtown are an embarrassment. Second, with the number of people on the city payroll these days, I was shocked to see how trashy the pond at the bayfront park was. Litter all in it...I took out of town guests there and was embarrassed. So many things need to be updated...they wouldn't even cost much money, but when they're in disrepair, it makes a big impression on residents and out of town guests alike.

wonder how well they hold up to lightning surges

People are so messy and lazy now and want the government to take care of them. Throw their dirt diapers and chicken bones on the beach. Wont walk ten feet to the trash can. shameful.
