TO DISCUSS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
At the 2012 budget committee meeting this morning, Council President Mixon said he may call a special council work session for this Monday to discuss next year's community development expenditures -- and how they will be dispersed.
According to Activities Director Sherry Sullivan, the total of about $211,000 will be about the same as this year's allocations -- unless its decided the Rotary Youth Club's special request for $285,000 is included (for a new building, playground).
TOO MANY WAIVERS BEING GIVEN
Almost everyone at the meeting agreed that some sort of firm policy should be implemented (schedule) to eliminate the plethora of costly fee-waiver-requests for the use of city facilities (civic center, senior center, etc.).
Some non-profits get fee waivers, but make over $75,000 on their events.
Senior Staff Member: "They ought to pay (the fees)."
In the absence of such firm guidance, one councilmember noted how hard it is to say no to some requests, particularly from non-profit organizations.
