Last week, the city council asked for another update on the search for the source of the bacteria that runs into the bay after heavy rainfalls and forces the health department to close area beaches.
Mayor Kant said testing is continuing through August; and a report of the results will be made to the council sometimes in September.
He said he may request the council approve more tests at that time (DNA) -- to determine if its source is animal or human.
COLONIAL ACRES SUSPECTED
Malfunctioning septic systems in the Colonial Acres subdivision was cited as one probable source. Agricultural runoff, boats, and wildlife have also been mentioned.
SEWER SYSTEM UPGRADES NEEDED
About $3.5 million for improvements to the city's sewer plant (head end) and emergency generators (to prevent overflows into creeks during power failures) has been requested in next year's budget.
