NO ATTEMPT TO OVERRIDE VETO
After the mayor asked the council not to override his veto of changes to the noise ordinance, the council made no effort to do so.
Mayor Kant: "I know a lot of people are for the veto ... but persons living next to the music are calling on you and me as well ... ."
Quinn: "I did not vote to override ... believe music is a large industry in Fairhope ... we need to rethink how we are doing the ordinance ... ."
Stasnkoski: "We obviously have a problem here ... county commissioners are now dealing with it south of town in Pt. Clear ... challenge the mayor ... or whoever ... to come up with a workable solution."
FORD CRITICIZES MEDIA FOR BAD COVERAGE
Councilman Ford criticized the media for poor coverage of the noise issue after the last council meeting.
Ford: " ... after reading the newspaper ... asked one reporter ... were you even at the meeting ... cause what came out in the paper ... was not basically what was said."
Ford said he was part of the Noise Committee that recommended reducing the level to 65db, along with the mayor and Mixon; but it was intended only as an experiment to see how it works for a month -- then try something else if necessary.
Ford: "Thought maybe I was at a different meeting ... just by reading the paper."
FORD BLASTS CRUDE E MAILS
Ford went on to call some of the e mails he has received concerning the issue "crude" and said that's not the Fairhope way he knew; he read one out-loud that was particularly offensive.
Ford: " ... been getting some ... civility's gone ... thought it was very crude ... the way things were put ... "
Council President Mixon concurred: "That is sad ... the level some people fall to."
