Fairhope Police Officer of the Month Named

DETECTIVE CHARLES VARNADO

Detective Charles Varnado was selected as Fairhope's Police Officer of the Month of October, 2011.

Chief Press: "I can't say enough about our detectives . . . when I first got here . . . a lot of cases went un-investigated . . . now they all are . . . its very intense work."

SOLVED BURGLARY RING

Press said that on Oct 20th a burglary of electronics and jewelry occurred in the Falls Creek Subdivision; and a subsequent door-to-door investigation by Varnado obtained a description of the supect and vehicle.

After obtaining a tip from the new community watch program in the Quail Creek Subdivision, Varnado located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop resulting in the arrest of 2 suspects in 50 burglaries spanning 3 counties.

Drugs and counterfeit money were also found in the vehicle.

Press: " . . . you are a credit to the law enforcement community."

COMMUNITY WATCH PRAISED

Varnado: "This was largely brought about by community watch programs and neighborhood associations getting involved and caring about their community."

Detective Davis said the Quail Creek Watch had only been operating for about a month.

(Publisher's Note: Councilmember Quinn, Chief Sanders and Detective Davis helped organize the community watch programs in meetings earlier this year)
