Fairhope, Alabama
The City Council passed and ordinance amendment forming a new Streets and Traffic Control Committee -- consisting of the Mayor, City Administrator, 2 Councilmembers, a Police Dept. representative, the Planning Director and any other persons "deemed appropriate" by the city council.
The purpose of the committee is to fix speed limits, place traffic control signs and traffic lights, control parking, et al.
The Committee will make recommendations to the city council, which has final approval authority. Council President Mixon said some additional appointments may be made at the next council meeting.
Previously the Mayor had been making all such decisions, according to Mixon.
