Police Personnel Hearing Canceled Again

Fairhope, Alabama

A Personned Board hearing scheduled for 8AM this morning that could have resulted in the termination of Police Dept. employee Tony Avera was canceled at the last moment when his attorney claimed the administrative process had not been followed properly: Avera had not been offered a direct appeal to Chief Press.

Mike Odom, a reporter for the Fairhope Courier, questioned whether the city administration or the Personnel Board had authority to cancel such meetings.

City HR Director Heathcoe said she hoped the hearing could be rescheduled for later this week.
