Proposed School Study Committee Needs More Applicants

Fairhope, Alabama

ONLY SIX APPLICANTS SO FAR

The number of applicants for the proposed Education Advisory Committee, intended to look at ways the city could help local schools in hard financial times, has been disappointing so far (only six); and the council is again asking for anyone interested to file their applications with the city clerk (forms available from the city's website).

The committee is to consist of six members, plus councilmen Stankoski and Kingrea.

Councilman Kingrea said he understood the group that had first proposed the committee was to solicit more applications.

Council President Mixon said the committee is still in need of a "mission statement" as well.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. I have had three children (one currently) go through this school system and they have all turned out fine. Engineering degrees, etc.

No mission statement???????????

One of the hundreds of reasons the Fairhope City Council has absolutely no business proposing, managing, or running a school system.

there is no committee yet so there is no need for a mission statement yet.

to the uninformed: this committee is not about forming a school system. you need to keep up with current events.

Pay attention Fairhope sheeple - this is nothing more than an attempt by Good2Great the their goons on the city council to force a school system down your throat.

This committee recommendation was made by Good2Great, the council representatives are on record as being supportive of the Good2Great initiative, the timing of this whole episode is highly questionable - trying to pull it off during the holidays when people are distracted.

Any you want to to believe there isn't a hidden agenda?

Who is uninformed now?

that last comment is mis-informed. no members of good 2 great are going to be on the committee. you need to keep up better on current events.

I saw the list of people that Diana Brewer from Good2Great provided to the city council. These were people who were being recommended to serve on this committee.

That document was provided to me by Lonnie Mixon.

The majority of people on that list were Good2Great supporters (many on their board, their leadership team or the advisory committee). I know this because I took the time to check it against their website.

Now, you can believe that Good2Great will not be strongly represented on this committee if you want to.

As for me, I'm paying attention to what is going on here. And I don't plan to let this group of elitist thugs take over our schools.

I sincerely hope (not) that the honorable Dr. Warner will sign up for the committee. He has years of unused "knowledge" that could be utilized in some or fashion. We cannot let this valuable mass of brains go to waste. Everybody said amen, amen, amen......

I was thinking...we didn't have these kinds of problems with our council until Walmart moved to town

Straight from Rick Kingrea - last week he wanted to keep the application process open for a couple more weeks because he wanted a greater cross section of applicants, then suddenly the deadline was this week and he said he changed his mind, only wants educators on the committee. I am one of the applicants that he doesn't plan to appoint (Because I am not an educator or because I don't drink Good 2 Great tea??). Wonder who will be appointed to the new school board, err, I mean committee?
