Councilmember Meets Federal Transportation Secretary

Fairhope, Alabama

LABOR SECRETARY TOO

At the recent National League of Cities meeting in Washington, Debbie Quinn said she met with U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood.

Quinn said she wants Fairhope to apply for federal transportation infrastructure (TIGER) grants for more biking/walking trails, particularly one along north Greeno road (U.S. 98) to connect the "tri cities," Spanish Fort, Daphne, and Fairhope.

Quinn: "... they are special monies set aside just for rural areas ... ."

Quinn is the current Chairman of the Alabama Trails Commission.

Quinn said she also met Labor Secretary Hilda Solis concerning programs for workforce education for returning military personnel. She said she attended a meeting at the White House about the same issue as well.

(Publisher's Note: Quinn currently has a son in the army serving in Afghanistan.)

Just what we need, more biking trails. Maybe they should just stick to those instead of messing up the streets. I know I don't plan to vote for any of the idiots that approved the street striping. JMO
