Sewer Plant Upgrades Move Forward

Fairhope, Alabama

$10.3 MILLION UPGRADE PLANNED

The city council passed a resolution allowing Mayor Kant to negotiate with Volkert Engineering to perform upgrades to the city's sewage treatment plant. Councilman Rick Kingrea was appointed to participate in the negotiations as well -- as the council's representative.

Contingent upon any new environmental regulations coming from ADEM, the upgrades should extend the life of the facility by about 15 years, according to engineering consultant CH2M Hill Inc.

An entirely new plant may then be necessary, possibly to be located on city-owned property south of the airport.
