Fairhope, Alabama
FROM STATE CHAPTER OF AARP
Mayor Kant introduced Public Works Director Jennifer Fidler who then presented to the Mayor/City Council an award she had received from the state chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons for the recent paving and striping of city streets --- implementing the Complete Streets policy the city had adopted about 2 years ago.
Fidler: "AARP presented the city with an award ... commending us for the striping and pavement plan ... the city courageously undertook. We are the first in the state who adopted a Complete Streets policy. I accepted the award on behalf of the city ... that has made the community a more pedestrian-friendly and walkable city."

I see this posted here all the time and I keep asking the same question...HOW??? Was there a rash of cars hitting people on the sidewalks? Do we have so many fat people that they couldn't fit in the crosswalk?
This notion that the streets are so much safer is total BS...
This announcement is certainly not news.
