More Repairs Made to Fairhoper's Community Park

Fairhope, Alabama

MAY HAVE TO BE CLOSED

Mayor Kant said additional repairs have been made to the downtown community park playground on Church St. after the city's building inspector had declared parts of it unsafe last week; but Kant said he still has not figured out what to do about splinters from the rough, weather-worn wood found there. The park is about 15 years old.

Kant: "It is safe to be there now ... (but) if we start getting complaints on splinters ... claims on splinters ... we'll probably have to close the park."

According to Council President Mixon,  2 private, non profit groups, one of them called Play by the Bay, are currently raising funds to replace the park with safer materials -- and a more handicapped-friendly design.

My brother sells equip up north to schools/churches/communities, etc. He will NEVER sell wood because of the upkeep and it doesn't last. Guess 15 years isn't too bad though. Think before you build something just because it "blends" with Fairhope.

The park is in desperate need of replacement. If anyone thinks we need to "preserve" the existing park, they are living in la la land. The wood is rotten, splintering and overall unsafe for our children. I'm 100% behind Play by the Bay for heading up a NEW park for the kids to enjoy! Look forward to hearing more!

May be painting the wood would help preserve it?
