Political Forum Canceled

Fairhope, Alabama

The political forum for candidates in the upcoming municipal election that had been tentatively scheduled for Aug. 16th has been canceled. The organization that was sponsoring the event, Citizens for Responsible Government, has withdrawn its request for the use of the civic civic center -- and to have the usual fees for the use of the facility waived by the city council.

At least one one city councilman, Ford, objected to the city waiving the fees on the grounds the organization has demonstrated a "political agenda" in the past.

Council President Mixon told the Times he has no idea why the request was withdrawn. At the prior council meeting, he had asked the organization to provide more details about their plans.

Another source tells the Times dissension within the group may be to blame and no alternate location is planned for the forum either; but a similar forum is to be held by another group somewhere in the Twin Beech community.

Update: According to informed sources, there will be an additional forum held on August 9th at the Homestead Village Retirement Community at 6PM (hosted by the "Homestead Tea Party").

I'm thinking the Homestead Tea Party must be a lively bunch.

The "Twin Beech community" definitely has a political agenda too.

To bad I wanted to ask Chris Warner why he thinks he should be mayor when he can't manage his own. He just lost his house to the bank. No planning degree. No job for years. He is a public figure now...get ready to answer questions..Mr. Warner....
