Municipal Election To Be Postponed?

Fairhope, Alabama

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING MAY BE CALLED

Because of the approaching hurricane Isaac, Council President Mixon says a special council meeting could be held tomorrow morning to decide whether to hold the municipal election Tuesday as scheduled.

Mixon said it would hinge upon the Governor declaring a state of emergency for south Alabama region.

Mixon: "We then must decide when to have the election. Notices go out and the justice Dept. would have to approve."

Mixon's statement:

"There is a good chance that the election will be postponed. We will have a Council meeting tomorrow morning and make an announcement. It depends on whether or not the Governor declares an emergency condition. We then must decide when to have the election. Notices must go out and the Justice dept must approve."
