(Updated) Construction of Gayfer Rd. Townhome Project Halted

Fairhope, Alabama

FAIRHOPE COMMONS DEVELOPMENT

The city issued a stop-work order last week for the 62-unit Fairhope Commons townhome development on Gayfer Rd. extension (just east of Greeno) for failure to provide adequate protection of trees that were required to be saved on the site.

City Planning Director Johnathan Smith said the stop-work order would be lifted as soon as the site is brought into compliance.

Smith: "They are working to get the site in acceptable condition to resume work. When they are finished stabilizing the site and putting up adequate tree protection, we will perform an inspection and either let them go back to work or instruct them to make any required changes."

The Times has not yet determined whether any fines will be levied against the developers.

(Update: Monday morning Smith told the Times the stop-work order had been lifted and the city would continue monitoring the site.)
