Point Clear Resort Hearing Rescheduled

Fairhope, Alabama

SPECIAL PLANNING MEETING CALLED

A request to subdivide (into 66 lots) a portion of the city's first Tourist Resort District (the Colony at the Grand on Old Battles Rd.) has been re-scheduled for Sep. 18th at 5PM in the civic center's Delchamps room.

The issue was on the agenda of the Planning Commission's last regular meeting (usually the 1st Monday of every month),  but had to be postponed because an insufficient number of commission members were present then (no quorum). Given the circumstances, the developers requested a special meeting be called earlier since they are anxious to break ground.

A representative for the project (HMR Engineering) told the Times that about 67% of the existing trees are to be saved and no "significant" trees are to be removed (greater than 20" diameter). Some additional trees are to be planted as well.

Drainage will be to existing lakes on the property.

The city's tree protection ordinance does not apply there; the TR resort was exempted.

The LR (low-rise residential) district at the lower left on the diagram is the part under consideration.
