Fairhope police recently saved an 82 year old bedridden woman from a burning house on S. Mobile St.
Sgt Jimmy Davis said officers James Nelsen, Mike Crittenden, Daniel Rada, and Damien Rehorn got the call right after a football game -- and were able to save resident Virginia Hvolboll from the blaze; but she died several days later (burns and smoke inhalation).
Davis: "... the guys went in and got her out ... unfortunately she succumbed to injuries later ... ."
Virginia Marie (Stauffer) Hvolboll was born in Alberta,Canada and was predeceased by her mother and father, her daughter Danna, and brother Stanley. After retirement, she found her "Utopia" in Fairhope -- and loved living there until her passing, according to her obituary.
The fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshall and the officers may be eligible for citations, according to police spokesmen.
