Fairhope's Veteran of the Year Named

Fairhope, Alabama

 WWII Marine Corps. veteran Modecai Arnold was named recently as Fairhope's Veteran of the Year.

Arnold, an Organic School graduate,  moved to Fairhope with his family in 1931 and grew up in the house on Mobile St. now occupied by the American Legion Post 199.

He was stationed in Guam and Peleliu during the Second World War and in China afterward ("China Marines") -- and returned to active duty for the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Major Mordecai retired from active service in 1977 after 34 years of honorable service.

(The award was presented 2 weeks ago before the former city council.)

Enjoyed seeing him in the parade but was surprised to see that the car he was riding in had a couple of Obama bumper stickers.

Chris Browning taped a campaign ad for Bob Gentle during the Mayor's election four years ago. Government stuff is weird. To the think the great one (Kant) would let Chris come back to Fairhope. The Griffis guy....of my,,,a book could be written....
