October's Police Offfcer of the Month Named

Fairhope, Alabama

AT  POLICE CITIZENS' ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

Chief Joe Petties has named Officer Phelon Durgins as Fairhope's Officer of the Month for October, 2012.

Petties said Durgins showed excellent professionalism for the way he handled a fight in a day care's parking lot one day that month that could have threatened the safety of children there; and for the way he handled a call for fraudulent activity at a downtown bank that same day. He also made numerous arrests and traffic stops that month.

Petties: "You have proven to be a valued asset of the police department ... truly a credit to our department ... ."

Durgins thanked the Committee for the award and became emotional speaking of how he lost his partner in the line of duty when he was a member of the Mobile Police Department in 2008.
