More Fairhope Police Presence Planned At Schools

Fairhope, Alabama

IN WAKE OF CONN. SHOOTINGS

In response to questions from a citizen, Councilman Burrell said discussions were underway about how to improve security in city-area schools. Mayor Kant said Chief Petties has been meeting with  Sheriff Mack to come up with a plan.

Kant said that a resource officer had already been assigned to the high school "for years" and other officers had been told to park their cars to do their paperwork at the other schools to increase presence there.

Kant: "They're working out a scenario ... so there will be more officers ... ."

Burrell: "Its been on my mind a lot ... nothing concrete yet ... ."

Why don't they just issue handguns to the teachers.
