Air Show Threatened By Military Cuts

Fairhope, Alabama

FESTIVAL OF FLIGHT

The Festival of Flight air show tentatively scheduled for September 28th at the airport may have to be canceled due to federal budget cuts.

Councilman Burrell: " ... with sequestration ... if they keep military planes grounded ... a very big concern."

Airport Authority Chairman Chuck Zunk concurred: "We have always relied on military support which now seems to be gone ... ."

Zunk seemed hopeful though that the show may still go on: "... with some corporate sponsorship and other things they are working on ... we may do it yet."

According to media reports, numerous air shows around the country have been canceled due to the $85 billion military cutbacks that went into effect on March 1st (click).

Only if you think that burning through thousands of gallons of fuel paid for by the taxpayer as a spectator sport so everyone can thump their chest.

The military planes that are needed to protect our country will still fly.

Keep it in perspective Jack.

i'm not sure Fairhope needs a big airport. We should charge Daphne people for using it, at least.
