OLD COLONIAL INN
The Times has learned that Edward Overton, his brother Wes, and Carlton Niemeyer are in the early stages of planning to construct condos on the former site of the historic Colonial Inn -- at the corner of Mobile St. and Cliff Dr. overlooking the bay.
Overton is a currently a professor at LSU; his parents owned and operated the Inn (where he grew up) and his father, Edward Sr. is a former Mayor of Fairhope.
If the plan comes to fruition, the new buildings of 5 units will be designed to look similar to the old Inn, according to Overton.
The old hotel caught fire and was demolished in the mid-1990s.
