Councilman Wants to Video Meetings

Fairhope, Alabama

After the council voted 4-1 at the previous meeting to end its policy of storing  audio recordings for 5 years, Council President Burrell proposed to video meetings instead,  to be broadcast on local cable access channels (if production costs are within reason).

Burrell: "There is a public access station we are not using on Mediacom ... ATT U-verse too ... we could video council meetings ... Planning and Zoning ... ."

Burrell said it would be another way for people who can't make it to meetings to "follow what is going on in the city."

Burrell: "Its another way to promote the city as well. They are on 24 hours a day."

Burrell didn't specify how long the recordings would be kept.

(Publisher's Note: Mayor Kant proposed videoing council meetings as well -- about 8 years ago)

What about storing the videos at the library so peopl can go in and look at them whenever they want to.

Let me guess that the production cost will be to much. We are to busy buying run down buildings and making flower clocks and cutting our dental insurance..

Burrel should have never voted to cease recordings in the first place. Had hopes for him. He ran for this office alone, at least that was the appearance, but he's just one of the good old boys, should have known all along.
