Fairhope, Alabama

Cub Scouts from Troop 47 helped Council President Burrell run the council meeting last night. They were there for their scouting project.

Looks like child abuse to me. Involving them in local politics . ;)

I think this was a wonderful thing for the Council President to do. Just another example of how well this Council is doing in the leadership department. To you people that find something nasty to say about every positive thing happening in our great community, I would say, why do you live here if you hate it so? I suspect that many of the comments are sour grapes from some no longer in office or previously, but no longer, employed by the City. The vast majority of us have spoken. We have what we wanted in our local government.

Who is the guy to the left of the Council President?

Last time I checked this was a free country and we can say what we want.....and thus we will continue......

I'll bet Burrell was a master scout , back in the day.

where are the comments about no Dental coverage???? The person posting having to actually work? Seen a lot of city vehicles along F'hope Ave of late...guess when you work, you can't post?

To third poster: got what "we wanted"....only 50% of the registered voters voted...don't forget that, and tim barely received 50% of those, giving him only 25% of the people's vote. Last election was rigged. Boone got in because that's how the good old boys do it...find a good old boy who has a large family (related to half of F'hope) and large Baptist (temp. parking) church base voting block, or any voting block...most certain to get elected, but look at his stats, roughly same 25%. So only 25% of the registered voters got what they wanted, which is shameful to those who said they'd get out and vote. I've heard dozens of people who are really upset with themselves because they just didn't think things would turn out the way they have...Got what you wanted, hope so, you deserve it.

So, you don't believe in democracy? In all elections the majority of THOSE THAT VOTED decide the outcome. You are assuming that all that didn't vote would have voted for something different. Actually, that would be as silly as me saying they would have all voted for those elected. That would mean that the 50% nonvoters would give the current administration 75% support. That would be a silly assertion. I work, shop, go to a large church, dine out, volunteer and attend many events in Fairhope. I am hearing overwhelming support for our mayor and council. Not scientific, but the positive vibes feel right to me.

Thanks you so much fellow city employee for the last comment. Long live the King (Kant)

I'm not a city employee, but it's nice to know city employees support the council and mayor too. That is what I hear from my friends who are city employees.

Democracy poster: I do believe in democracy under our republic form of government. Law in Fairhope is made up as needed for votes & other political necessities. Fairhope does not operate under the laws which govern a democratic society, which is my point.

I feel compelled to jump in to this conversation. Be specific. What laws have been passed to nullify democracy in Fairhope? The majority of those that voted, voted for those that got elected. That is the definition of democracy. Is the complainer someone that supported or is one of the candidates that lost? Or is this about state, not Fairhope, law that if a candidate wants a very costly hand count, with no proof of any fraud, they must pay for it themselves? As a citizen that pays taxes, I very much agree with this long standing, not recent, law. Remember the Bush/Gore recounts in Florida? Same rule, different state, larger scale.

Remember, democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner...

This council is a thousand times better than the last one.
