This monument has really destroyed the view. This area used to be a peaceful nook that you could escape to while watching the hub-bub going on below. Now, it's got crying statues. Why depress people when they visit the bay? Why not do something with the wasteland (aka Pine Habitat) behind it and fill it with crying statues and sidewalks?

Destroyed the view? Seriously? There's huge amounts of space between the statue and the bay. I walk by that piece of park most days, and rarely see anyone in it. Yes, the view from the benches on the bluff are the best in Fairhope. Now, maybe someone will actually be drawn up there to enjoy it. I don't particularly care for the design of the statue, but that's simply a matter of personal taste. We have elected city government to decide such things, and a committee for public art. If you are so unhappy, run for office or get involved with the committee. And the pine habitat has been discussed ad nauseam. It is delightful to have a piece of natural forest right in the middle of town. Sadly, almost no one ever bothers to walk through it either, much less learn about what is being done there and why. Just moaning and complaining incessantly.
