FORMER SENATOR ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY

After being introduced by his wife Rebecca,  Fairhope's former state Senator Bradley Byrne announced he would be seeking  the 1st Alabama Congressional District seat after it is vacated by Jo Bonner this August.

Rebecca: "32 years ago ... I married a man of deep character ... with a strong ability ... and a gift for affecting change ... and somehow I sensed that ... I would never be bored ... ."

Bradley Byrne: "I am announcing today my candidacy for Jo Bonner's seat ... when he resigns in August ... This has not been an easy decision ... ."

Byrne said the decision to run was made after "a lot of prayer" and consulting with friends and family members.

Byrne: "No one owns this office. I must earn the voters' trust and confidence one voter at a time."

Byrne promised to focus on the "needs of the people", including:

* Getting our economy moving again
* Balancing the budget
* Preserve Social Security and Medicare
* Reform the tax code
*Repeal Obama-care
*Build a new I-10 bridge
*Extend the Foley Beach Express
*Lower home insurance rates
*Let states set fish limits (snapper)
*Deepen and widen the Mobile ship channel
*Improve FEMA's response

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THE PRIORITY

Byrne said he thought the area was poised for a burst of economic development:

"This is our moment. We are in a great position of leadership in steel making, shipbuilding, aviation, medical research and cargo handling ... ."

"Our Congressman must to play a critical role ... I intend to be that Congressman ... ."
