Fairhope, Alabama
FEDERAL 'COPS' PROGRAM
The city council recently approved seeking a grant for funding the salaries of 3 new police officers. The COPS program will fund their salaries for 3 years.
Chief Petties called it a great opportunity: "... we're looking at hiring 3 officers for the Dept. ... this will pay up to 75% of their salaries ... ."
Mayor Kant said the only disadvantage is that the city will have to pay the full costs after the fourth year.
Kant: "Since we're already in the process of hiring all these officers ... it would save money in the future ... ."
(Solicitations for applications for 2 corrections and one police officer were found posted on the city's bulletin board recently)
POPULAR OFFICER LEAVING
Twenty year veteran Sgt. Jimmy Davis announced recently he will be leaving June 9th to become the new Police Chief of Summerdale, Al. His first day on the new job will be the next day.
Chief Petties: "Sergeant Davis has been with the Department for almost 20 years. Throughout those years, he has definitely made a huge impact on the Department through his hard work and dedication. I know that Sergeant Davis will do a great job serving as the Chief of Police for Summerdale Police Department. He will surely be missed by the Department as well as by the citizens of Fairhope. We all wish him well."

Oh well back to pulling over teenage girls I guess. As a Fairhope resident I am glad that my two girls are grown and will not be subject to being pulled over for no reason.
