Recycling Committee Expanded

Fairhope, Alabama

FROM 9 TO 12 MEMBERS

The city council has unanimously passed a resolution amendment expanding the Recycling Committee from nine to twelve members -- and adding another city council member (form one to two).

Terms will be for 4 years.

The function of the committee is "to make recommendations to the City Council on ways and means of recycling trash, garbage, and other materials."

APPOINTMENTS MADE

Newly appointed to the Committee are:

Stephen Delahunty
Synthia Kaiser
Bart Cox
Don Prosch
Nancy Anderson
Rich Mueller (Councilman)

Reappointments:

Gary Gover
Mark Stejskal

Existing Members:

Jeanne Normand
Pete Bremer
Mike Ford (Council Member)
Dale Linder (city Public Works supervisor)

LARGE NUMBER OF MEMBERS QUESTIONED

Council President Burrell commented that it may be hard to get a quorum with so many members, but Ford replied it shouldn't be a problem.

Ford: "If people want to serve ... I think we ought to let them serve ... we're going to get this thing going ... and be number one again."

Ford added that he expected two additional, experienced "resource people" from outside the city limits would also be involved (not as voting members); but their names were not divulged at the time.

How can Nancy Anderson be on the recycling committee when her husband is working in public works?

why would you care if serving the city in a volunteer role in a non-binding committee?

With that many people it could descend into chaos.
