Fairhope, Alabama
DRAIN PIPE 'BLEW OUT'
According to the mayor, a blown out 37+ year old corrugated street drainage pipe was the major cause of the landslide of red clay that came down from the bluff onto the duck pond area last week.
He said plans are in the works to replace the pipe and possibly reinforce the bluff there using concrete blocks.
Public Works Director Fidler said the project may be similar to one done on Augusta Court in the Rock Creek subdivision several years ago, using storm drain "boxes", pipes and channels to conduct the stormwater from above down safely into the bay.
She said there may be an opportunity to install more plants in the new valley as well -- to discourage more erosion.
City Public Works personnel will do the work and should cost about $15,000 according to the mayor.
More heavy rain is expected in the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.
