FOR 'COMMUNITY APPROPRIATIONS'
The city council received and is considering a list of 21 Community Appropriation requests from various private and public organizations.
The list includes:
$750,000 for local county schools (academics)
$281,000 for the Pt. Clear Rotary Club to construct a new
classroom
$50,000 for the Pirate Boosters Club
$25,000 for the Eastern Shore Art Center
$20,000 for Smartcoast
The total amount requested is $1,228,689.

FOR 'COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT'
A separate list of 27 city-sponsored events and similar items totaling $200,350 -- including:
$48,000 to publish and distribute the City Sketches magazine
$25,000 to stage the New Years Eve event
$17,000 for the Fourth of July event
$15,000 to promote sports tourism.
$7,500 for the yearly employee luncheon
Community Development funding comes mostly from the city's utilities, via customers' bills.
FULL FUNDING NOT LIKELY
The mayor and council indicated they expect to reduce the total amount significantly, but have not decided which specifically to cut.
