Highway 181 Widening Begins

Fairhope, Alabama

FROM GAYFER RD. TO QUAIL CREEK

Public Works Director Fidler announced today that the 3-laning of Highway 181 from Gayfer Rd. southward to the entrance to the Quail Creek subdivision will begin this week. The project was originally scheduled to begin earlier this year, but had to be delayed due to bid-related problems.

The ALDOT project is to be entirely funded by federal and state dollars (about $2 million) -- and should be completed by Christmas, according to Fidler.

Earlier this year, Mayor Kant called the 3-laning a temporary measure; the long range plan being to 4 lane it (click).

Fidler said the contractor had agreed to take steps to minimize traffic delays during the construction.

Great news! They also need to add a turn lane on County Road 13 at the entrance to Magnolia Commons. The county would do it (maybe even require it) but the city thinks a turn lane might change the ambiance of the area. With two neighborhoods (over 100 homes) built in the area, the ambiance is already changed. Time to update the infrastructure to match.

Watch out lessees. FSTC will try to take your money and say "we own the land" but courts have held that the leasehold value is from 90 to 100% to the lessee.
