Marina Channel To Be Relocated

Fairhope, Alabama

COSTLY DREDGING NOT NEEDED

After the Army Corp of Engineers found the depth of the marina met their minimum 6' depth specifications except for a short stretch (about 25') on the north side of the channel entrance -- it was decided to temporarily shift some of the entrance markers to the south to avoid a sandbar that had partially blocked it there.

The Fairhope Yacht Club is seeking bids to see how much it will cost to remove the sand, which had drifted in due to natural bay circulation from the north.

All marina-area stakeholders are expected to chip in, including the city, but the cost (estimated $20,000) will be far less than originally feared.
