The Recreation Board has approved a new plan for the proposed 10-field Soccer Complex at the corner of Manley Rd. and CR 13 that moves the 3 vehicular entrances to CR 13. (CR 13 is on the right in the picture)
Residents of the neighboring Summer Lake subdivision had objected to the original version because the main entrances were to be on Manley.
The Planning Commission must still approve the plan, at its next meeting on Dec. 2nd.
The city council viewed the new plan at a work session Monday night, but will take no further action if the Planning Commission approves it -- except to approve the construction contracts.
Mayor Kant told the Times there will still be minor entrances for pedestrians and maintenance vehicles on Manley -- and the cost of the project will be about the same ($2 million, from sales tax, impact fees and other sources).
Engineers managed to save space by incorporating more drainage into the enlarged 747-space parking area, now located on the east side of the property. The size of two fields was shrunk slightly as well.
Additional space will be left available on the south side for future expansion.
Construction could begin by the first of next year.
