'FOCUSED REVITALIZATION'
Repairs to vacant the Fort Riel National Guard Armory on Fairwood Blvd. have begun.
General contractor Bay South Limited was awarded the $262,000 contract by the state for repairs to the roof and elsewhere.
An informed source says the National Guard plans to return to the building, but no time frame was given.
The 1165th MP Company formerly home-stationed there moved out last year and relocated to Brewton and Atmore.
Armories that are kept in good repair are less likely to be closed permanently during the next round of BRAC (Base Realignment and Closing Commission) by the federal government, possibly in 2015.
