REORGANIZES
At its March meeting, the Educational Advisory Committee welcomed newly-appointed members, Cynthia Wilson, Hill Robinson, Cobby Witherington, and Hank Burch. Kerry Flowers was not present.
The committee had been inactive for the past 2 months due to lacking a quorum.
Wilson is Director of University of South Alabama, Baldwin County; Robinson of the Robinson Insurance Agency; Witherington is a home health nurse; Burch is general manager of the Five Rivers Delta Center; and Flowers of the Flowers Consulting Group.
Wilson, Robinson and Flowers are past/current Board Members of FEEF.
SPENDING PROPOSALS APPROVED
The committee then reviewed and approved spending proposals submitted by the principals of the five area schools, except for several items that did not meet the committee's criteria (S.T.E.A.M.) for disbursement.
Sports, band, and professional development related were among those deleted.
The red-lined items will be returned to the principals for new proposals. Each school is allotted $70,000.
Money not spent will be reserved and reviewed when new proposals are made by the principals. The city council must still vote to give final approval to the committee's recommendations.

SUB COMMITTEES ESTABLISHED
Chairman Bob Riggs then appointed three new sub-committees:
* Academic Performance Assessment SC: To study ways to collect data to
compare the academic standing of Fairhope schools to other schools in
Alabama. Wilson, Robinson and Sumerlin.
* Mission Statement Review SC: To determine if the EAC's mission
statement is adequate and how to improve it if necessary. Kellen,
Witherington, and Flowers.
* Criteria For Funding Requests SC: To review the EAC's criteria for
disbursing city funds. Schapker, Burch, and Riggs.
INTERESTED OBSERVERS PRESENT
City Council President Jack Burrell and district School Board candidate Cecil Christenberry also attended.
Burrell (with Mayor Kant, Diana Brewer and Bob Riggs) had just met with Dr. Alan Lee before this meeting -- to explain to him the criteria being used to disburse the funds.
Lee attended this committee's first meeting in March of 2012, but none since (click).
Christenberry said he was impressed with the proceedings and made some comments to the Times afterward -- click.
