New Airport School Behind Schedule

Fairhope, Alabama

"FLIGHT ACADEMY"

At the May Airport Authority meeting, member Charlie Bassett said he had met with representatives from contractors, the Baldwin School Board and the community colleges involved and was told there should be no problem opening by the Fall school term as planned -- even though construction has been delayed somewhat by bad weather.

Bassett said the bricklaying phase would be critical.

OTHER MATTERS

*  A $1.2 million grant (FAA, state) to upgrade drainage, runways and taxiways should become available shortly. (Water came over runways during the last heavy rainfall)

* The Army Corps of Engineers has approved a conservation easement on the west side for a wetland mitigation project.

* Approved an update to the airport's minimum standards for operation.

* Discussed the upcoming request for proposals for soliciting a new FBO (airport operator).

* Approved a new Safety and Security plan.

* The air show, Festival of Flight, could return next year -- possibly partnering with the private show scheduled for this weekend (Learn to Fly Day).

If the city can partner with the county on this, why not for other schools, like a Performing Arts School?
