Sidewalk Construction Underway

Fairhope, Alabama fairhopetimes@att.net

EAST FAIRHOPE AVE.

Work has begun to complete the sidewalk along Fairhope Ave. -- all the way out to Hwy 181 and the Walmart store (1,700').

That area is considered to be a commercial Village Center by the city's Comprehensive Growth Plan -- which emphasizes sidewalk and bicycle path construction.  (The Comp. Plan is currently being reviewed and updated.)

The city is being reimbursed for the cost of the sidewalk by the Single Tax Corporation -- using its land-lessees' annual rent receipts.

The Corp. also plans to fund a sidewalk nearby -- along Morphy Ave. (if costly drainage issues can be settled).

(Planning is also underway for a separate project to repave and widen Fairhope Ave. somewhat -- to add  bicycle lanes, and improve intersections/crosswalks, money permitting.)

The city needs to hire a real engineer to plan this stuff. The streets are way to narrow.
