Fairhope, Alabama
IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED
Council member Rich Mueller has been in discussions with the mayor and golf department head Bobby Hall that may lead to increased green, cart, or other fees next year.
One item under consideration has been discussed for years: installing a new irrigation system for the course, costing about $860,000 (yr. 2010 estimate).
Mayor Kant mentioned the need for irrigation in his 5 year capital plan in 2010; and in his annual state of the city address this year.
Mueller: " We're looking at upgrades ... an irrigation system ... professionally installed ... and do some things with golf carts ... not sure exactly what ... yet. (Also)... repairs to cart paths (root damage)."
"We're looking to increasing fees slightly ... to offset costs of all these upgrades."
An avid Quail Creek resident-golfer told the Times' sports reporter today he is ok with fee increases, but only if it includes all city recreation facilities, not just the golf course.
The course brought in $1,113,000 in revenue and had expenses of $1,062,000 in 2013.
