New Civil War Book Collection Dedicated

Fairhope, Alabama

Mayor Kant cut a ribbon dedicating a a small room at the library for a collection of civil war books, donated by Fairhope resident Richard Kwapil and others.

Museum of History Director Donnie Barrett dressed as a Yankee marine for the ceremony.

Barrett had participated in a re-enactment of the Battle of Mobile Bay this past weekend; he also enthusiastically read the Gettysburg address for the gathering, which included Library Director Tamara Dean.

The mayor said he was happy to see the library make good use of its space; and while he was not much of a civil war buff himself, he could remember finding bullets "washed up" after rains when he was growing up near the Spanish Fort battlefields.
