Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that's fun and rewarding for the entire family."
Over 100 teams comprised of individuals from various businesses and other organizations across Mobile and Baldwin counties participated.

The 'Walking Geeks' team from the University of South Alabama came out on top with $4,774.

The city's team organized by Pandora Heathcoe raised $2,764; the bulk coming from sponsors for city clerk Lisa Hanks -- who dedicated her efforts to grandmother 'Nana'.

In addition to Heathcoe and Hanks -- Mayor Kant, Jennifer Fidler, Dan Ames and other employees participated.

The Legends team was the fifth-biggest fundraiser; Hank's total of $2,015, the second largest by any individual this year.

Their efforts were dedicated to 85 year old part-time employee Tod Jonson who has had several heart attacks in the past four years.

Jonson mans the entrance booth to the beach-area during summer months.

During a brief statement, Jonson emphasized exercise, breathing properly and drinking plenty of water as preventatives.
