Fairhope, Alabama
2015 BUDGET NEGOTIATIONS
During a arduous 3hr. work session last Monday, the mayor told the city council he had added $100K for constructing sidewalks in Phase I of the Quail Creek Subdivision, a project that has been pending for some time: some council members had requested the addition.
The mayor said he planned for the city to purchase the concrete and hire a private contractor to lay it.
Kant: "It will take all of that ($100K) ... and more."
Council member Brewer mentioned again that sidewalks are needed "all over town." (Another $50K is included for sidewalk construction elsewhere in town)
Exact plans were not revealed, but prior discussions in previous years were to begin it near the golf
clubhouse -- and proceed eastward down Quail Creek Dr. into the neighborhood.
Earlier stages of older subdivisions were not required to have sidewalks put in by their developers as the houses were built -- as they are now. Newer areas in Quail Creek have them.
GOLF COURSE GETS IRRIGATION
Just under $700K is included in the proposed budget for a new irrigation system for the golf course: another project delayed for several years.
The city council is expected to approve the new budget this Monday; it will take effect on Oct. 1st.
