Fairhope Splash Pad's Future In Doubt

Fairhope, Alabama

CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS

According to the mayor, the city is currently investigating its options concerning construction defects within the new splash pad installed last Spring at the Fairhope Community Park.

The cracks in the foundation could possibly be repaired somehow, but ultimately it may have to be dug out and the concrete re-poured.

There are also issues with the spray nozzles and drains.

Final payment to the contractor is being withheld until the problems can be resolved.

The Community Park rebuild project was thrown into disarray when the original general contractor Kidz Zone Play Systems Llc.  pulled out because of "unforseen circumstances"--  and subcontractor Advanced Recreational Concepts Llc.  took over.

All repairs will be during the colder months when the pad is not in use -- so it will be ready by next Spring's warmer weather.

PAD TOO SMALL?

At least one council member expressed disappointment at the relatively small size of the facility, but the mayor said he thought it would be better to install more splash pads at other location around town instead of enlarging this one, perhaps somewhere on the "east side" of town.

Installing one at the municipal pool has also been proposed.
